Steminist: More than Just A Movement.

By definition, a steminist is an advocate for increasing the presence of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. A word that is to define this existing movement of women who have been on the frontiers of innovative change that inspires the world we live in. These women are our mothers, friends, daughters, sisters, wives, girlfriends, and beyond. This isn’t a role or a fancy name. It’s efforts of progression in a more connected, global world.

I am beyond proud to be on the campaign started by Girl Boss herself, Naomi Thomas. Naomi has been more than a mentor to me. I met her my freshman year of UNCG and since then she has been nothing but a inspiration, role model, and friend to me. I look at Naomi as the future of women leaders who lead with their passion and hard work. She’s not only an inspiring person, she is also a kind-hearted woman who values the empowerment of people in her network and beyond.

This campaign is more than just a set of pictures and t-shirts. It’s been the heartbeat behind every project, line of code, and data that I have been a part of. Being a woman in technology is no easy feat and as I begin my career of using data as a form of storytelling I am motivated by the people I am able to call my friends and also be able to look up to. How cool is that? Having people that inspire you to be who you are but are also down to get brunch every once in awhile.

Steminist is more than a movement. It’s the collection of all people who are encouraging the fearless women in their lives to be better in their respected disciplines. I am so honored to be showcased alongside these other incredible, badass, strong women.

This platform that I have founded and sought refuge in, is more to me than just a collection of my stories. It’s a stage where I can evoke change, inspire others, and bring together people who are multifaceted in their own right. If you’re reading this and you’re listening, understand that whatever it is you are called to do. Do it. Lead with your heart and the best intentions and all of the good that you are seeking will be revealed right inside of you. If you’re lucky like me, you’ll also attract people who will see it too. This is more than a platform. This more than a movement.

I know that some people may look at this and roll their eyes but imagine what it would do if you opened your mind and heart the possibility of inspiring the young girls who want to be the next Elon Musk. Imagine giving the kids the ability to create with technology. I think there would be a lot more good in this world.

If you use my link to purchase, 30% of the profits will be donated to Girls In Tech . One of the many organizations that inspire the next generation of women in technology leaders through education, engagement, and empowerment.

✨Grounded, Growing, and Glowing ✨

This time of year is a transitional period for a lot of people. Graduation, prom, moving, internships, summer, opportunity, all of that stuff. It’s a bittersweet time too because, on one hand, you’re excited about all the things ahead but on another, you’re going to miss some of the most important memories or people that have shaped you. I always feel extra anxious because I hate saying goodbye. But this year, I am the one leaving. Apart of me is really scared to move but another part of me is really excited to be around new people, a new city and start over.

Also, this time period seems to move VERY VERY fast.

Spring semester flew by and throughout this entire semester some really powerful things happened for me. More recently, I have evolved. I am constantly growing. Some of that growth is painful and some of it is so beautiful. And I am soaking every moment of it in.

So, let’s get personal…

My blog launching, a toxic relationship, an eating disorder, and transformational decision to move to Charlotte later and here we are: exactly where I am supposed to be.

Some of the situations like my ED is a process. There is no fixed formula or recipe for it but writing about it allows me to shed some of the weight (ironic) of it all off. It doesn’t place the burden that I am carrying this challenge with me alone because I know many people also go through it.

One of the most challenging realizations I had was I wasn’t loving, accepting, and living my truth. I put myself in a position where I felt like I had to compromise who I was in fear of not receiving the love and security I was searching for. The relationship I was in didn’t support me and everything I was and it felt like I was in competition with every and any person or thing in his life. Those emotions pushed me to realize I wasn’t taking care of myself in the process. I didn’t feel like I couldn’t defend who I was when things happened. Things that were wrong and had nothing to do with me.

Through extensive therapy, I’m in a better place of taking care of myself and I don’t compromise who I am the way I used to. I trust who I am and what I can offer.

I wasn’t treating myself with the same love, compassion, and forgiveness I was offering other people. Being in therapy and actively practicing self-love/self-care taught me that there is no one that can offer me anything I can’t offer myself. The search began from the source: me. I was lost in the shuffle of being the “perfect woman” and wasn’t being myself in the process. I was trying to be what other people thought I should be. When in reality, all I needed to be was myself.

It’s become so apparent to me, during this time of transition, that the people and circumstances that support and love you are the ones you chose to attract. During this time, I look around to see who is there and who isn’t. I’ve learned not to beat myself up about the people that aren’t in my life because everyone has choices and I can’t bother myself too much about the choices other people make for themselves.

My therapist and I came up with a mantra that I say every day.

“I want to take care of myself in such a way that I am not abusing myself. I can do this by taking ownership of what I do and who I do it with”

I hope you all can benefit from this in some way. It reminds us to give ourselves the permission to nurture ourselves as much as we nurture other people.

Once I’ve begun taking ownership of myself, my actions, and my reactions to situations I have been protecting so much of my energy. I’ve disconnected myself from what other people choose to do with their lives and the people in them. That’s helped me nurture myself instead of punishing myself for choices other people make.

Practicing self-care is so much more than doing a face mask. It’s really thinking about what your limitations are and what you can/ cannot do within that. I’ve been communicating more openly on how I feel and think instead of trying to shrink myself to be someone I’m not. I cannot punish myself if someone chooses not to accept that because I am who I am. That may sound self-righteous but I think when you’re aware of yourself and your behaviors you can identify who you really are and teach yourself to accept yourself. You won’t feel the need to be in competition with anyone once you really see your own value.

That has translated into my brand and other areas of my life. I am so ready to embrace the good, the bad, and everything else this next phase of my life will offer. I won’t ever reduce myself to be seen as “enough” for someone else.

Transitions are amazing because you can slow down, be honest with yourself, and figure out a plan of action for where/who you want to be. Think about the people around you and what their limitations are. And give yourself the permission to love yourself for who you are.

Social Media: The New Marketplace

Check me out on Charlotte Consulting Group where I am a data analyst, content creator, and technology consultant. Stay on top of the LATEST tech news at charlotteconsultinggroup.com

Let’s face it, online shopping is the way most people shop. Most people also love to use social media as a way to learn more about smaller brands that aren’t as popular. We like to follow brands on social media that we shop from, connect with, or even newer ones that we may be interested in. As a smaller business, don’t let this scare you. This is your chance to shine!

If you already use social media to market your company, you can do the same by treating social media as another marketplace. A picture is worth a thousand words and your customers shop with their eyes. You can display pictures of your latest products and services to attract new customers to your site. Have fun and be creative! People are looking to see your unique products.

Keep in mind that your customers will typically shop similar to their friends or followers. By promoting your products on social media you are able to tap into the people behind the followers as well. By treating your social media platform as an online store, your customers have faster access to you and your merchandise. Not to mention, your customers can access you faster! You can speak directly towards customers who have service complaints, need updates on their orders, or are curious about your array of products.

Most social media platforms have tools you can use to promote your company within their platform. You can use paid advertising to get to reach a broader customer base too. If your product stands out it could go viral which means big returns on that investment. Try commenting back on your pictures or commenting on other brands that are related to yours.

Breaking Down the Basics of Blockchain

The blockchain is a fancy new buzzword that is disrupting the way we think about the Internet. But no one really knows what it is and how it can change the way we share, view, and interact with information. When it comes to any information on any device, it’s crucial that the data is accessible and protected. With blockchain, we might be one link closer to universal accessibility of information, across any industry. This innovation can revolutionize the development of future technologies by introducing automated updates.

As blockchain development continues, the internet we know today would look completely different. For now, blockchain is prevalent in the financial services in forms of buying and exchanging digital currency. The idea was originated by the infamously known creator: Satoshi Nakamoto. If you know anything about digital currency you know that Satoshi Nakamoto is actually a pseudonym but this name created: Bitcoin.

The blockchain is supposed to become an innovative infrastructure for a potentially new internet and could extend beyond just trading digital gold.

So, how does it work?

Information on a blockchain has no source and can’t be corrupted. There is no host, master, or server that parents it. Each device that the information is stored on has the most recent updates already in place. Anyone with access to it can change the file and in order to get total control over it, you will need to destroy a series of networks and devices. That task alone isn’t easy which makes blockchain databases extremely secure. Financial companies already use blockchains because it updates transactions and statements instantly, securely, and very quickly.

The best way to think about blockchain is Google Docs. With Google Docs, I and several other people can update, revise, or share the same document with all of its revisions to many other people. In a blockchain, any changes that happen within the Google Docs is updated to anyone who has access to it. We all have access to the information at the same time and can be on it at the same time. It also enables the ability for information to be transparent to anyone who has the access. That way instead of sending the same document back and forth, everything can be done in one place and you can see who/what revisions were made and when.

This erases the notion that information must be centralized and that data is all kept in one place. A network of computers and devices share the rights to all the information that’s being transacted within the network. It’s all monitored by a peer to peer basis instead of having a host. Anything that happens within that network affects the whole network. Larger companies and industries can widely benefit from this but small businesses also need to strategize ways to incorporate this innovative technology.

Essentially, your devices communicate on the same network all at the same time. This also means that artificial intelligence tools like bots and data automation become assets to your technology strategy. Centralized data opens a lot of threats to hackers to take data from one source but with blockchain, since all of it is distributed equally, the risk is reduced substantially. Traditional methods of securing networks use the typical “username and complicated password” while blockchain’s information is fully encrypted, making it more secure. The range of possible technologies developing because of blockchain is so extensive. It is going to change the way we visualize data, access it, and present it.
